Toll break Friday on AC Expressway

Some motorists will get a break on tolls on the Atlantic City Expressway.

The $3 toll will be waived for eastbound traffic at the Egg Harbor toll plaza between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday.

The Memorial Day weekend toll-free event is part of a promotion to launch the unofficial start of the Jersey shore’s summer tourism season.   A sports-bar franchise will pick up the tab for the estimated $13,000 in tolls usually collected during the hour.

South Jersey Transportation Authority deputy executive director Sharon Gordon tells The Press of Atlantic City she wishes there were more sponsors to have a longer toll-free event.   The break will apply to motorists who pay with cash or E-ZPass.   Tolls will resume at 6 p.m. Friday.
