Germantown High School’s dream of a Public League football title ended Saturday night when the Bears lost 36-20 to George Washington High. Things looked like they would go better early in the game and the Bears took a 20-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

“The killer instinct wasn’t there,” said Bears standout cornerback and wide receiver Will Parks. “They came out in the second half with an onside kick and it was a wrap. It was heartbreaking. The coaches said it was a shame that we had to leave the field crying because we deserved that game.”

Germantown’s season isn’t over, though. They’ll play Furness on Thursday night and then, the annual Thanksgiving rivalry against MLK High.

GW will play Frankford for the Public League Class AAAA championship on Nov. 12.
