3 teens admit to random attack in downtown Philly

Three Mastery Charter students have admitted to randomly attacking a man in downtown Philadelphia, leaving him with a fractured jaw.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports the ninth- and 10th-graders entered the equivalent of guilty pleas in Family Court yesterday.

The July 29 assault near the Liberty Bell sent the 36-year-old victim to the hospital for two days. Prosecutor Leslie Gomez says the victim’s jaw is still wired shut and that he faces more surgery.

Judge Kevin Dougherty will decide later this month whether to place the teens in residential schools, treatment facilities or secure juvenile detention centers. They have been in custody since the assault.
