Sweet heritage

America has always been a melting pot, and in this case that pot contains chocolate.

A Greek immigrant set up shop in Wilmington over one hundred years ago and brought his brothers to America for an education, as well as to teach them the craft of chocolate making.  Three generations later you can still taste the recipes and old world charm being cooked up at Govatos Chocolates on Market Street.

This Friday, First Experience takes us on a tour as the 3rd generation of this family keeps the memories alive and gets ready for the Easter holiday.

In this First Experience sneak preview, Nick Govatos talks about his family’s heritage and the history of the shop that bears his name.  You can watch the complete First Experience this Friday on First on WHYY at 5:30 pm and 10 pm, as well as on the Delaware page of NewsWorks.

Govatos also has a location at 4105 Concord Pike, Talleyville, Delaware, and Nick says if you are planning on coming in, don’t wait too long, as all those delicious treats will sell out quick.  The store is open Monday through Saturday.
