Suspicious device destroyed in Center City Philadelphia

Officials plan to examine surveillance footage as they try to determine who put a suspicious package outside a historic building in Philadelphia.

Chief Inspector Joe Sullivan says a police bomb squad disposed of the cylindrical metal device Monday afternoon. Sullivan says the package left outside the First Bank of the United States building wasn’t dangerous but investigators believe it was intended to cause panic.

The building is not open to the public. Sullivan tells KYW-AM the National Park Service will check nearby surveillance cameras as part of the investigation.
