Powder scare

Police have closed 7th street between Market and Arch streets after a letter containing a suspicious white powder was found at the Federal Building.

John J. Patrignani, Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal for the eastern district of Pennsylvania, said the powder was found to be crushed antacid tablets.

The street remains closed with increased police presence as the building follows its “polices and procedures,” said Patrignani. “This kind of incident is not uncommon,” he added.

According to Patrignani, the letter did have a return address and the investigation is continuing.
