SugarHouse hearing draws mostly pro-casino neighbors

More than 20 people signed up for a public hearing yesterday to testify against SugarHouse’s presence in Fishtown. Just one showed up.

The hearing to review the casino’s license ended up being heavy with SugarHouse supporters because those in opposition felt the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has already sided with the industry.

City Paper has a recap of Thursday’s hearing, and spoke with a member of Casino-Free Philadelphia about the group’s reason for staying away. One thing the PGCB did take issue with: SugarHouse’s approach to diversity.
