Confirmed tornado leaves Northeast Philly busnisses with damage

Weather officials have confirmed that it was a tornado that descended on a northeast Philadelphia block yesterday afternoon, tearing part of the roof off a beer distributor and a restaurant and demolishing a car repair shop.

Fire officials were called shortly before 2 p.m. No serious injuries were reported.

Gloria Deckard of the Beer Hut store told the Philadelphia Inquirer that the place was totaled. She says it’s been there since 1974.

The winds also brought down the roof of R&R Car Repair next door. Benny the Bum’s Crabhouse bar and restaurant also lost part of its roof.
