Special election

Voters in Berks County, Pa., will vote in March for the successor of Sen. Michael O’Pake, who died last month. The special election will take place March 15, the Associated Press reports, after candidates have been nominated.

The Berks County Republican Party will select its candidate and members of the Berks county and state committees who live within the senatorial district will choose the Democratic candidate, pending approval by the Democratic State Committee’s executive board.

O’Pake, a Democrat, was the longest-serving state legislator.
