Small tax hike in Penns Grove school district budget proposal

    The preliminary Penns Grove/Carneys Point Regional School District budget includes a three-cent tax increase and smaller operating budget. Changes could be made to the $37,132,638 proposal before the March 28 public hearing.
    Some retiring teachers won’t be replaced new programs are on hold, and plans for a bond referendum for a new middle school are postponed, Today’s Sunbeam reports. The school board received about $330,000 in additional state funding, but still had to make cuts. The middle school construction has been estimated at $9 million.
