Six Flags debuts speeding stand-up roller coaster

It’s 154 feet tall, three-quarters of a mile and bright green.

It’s Six Flags’ new Green Lantern roller coaster, and WHYY’s Jen Howard is riding it.

Jen is there now, and she’ll share her story with us later, but she did snap the photo above before climbing aboard. Billed as one of the tallest and fastest coasters in the world, the Green Lantern is a bit different than others: Riders stand for the two-and-half-minute ride.

The ride starts with a 45-foot vertical drop and includes three loops and some twisting corkscrews — all at speeds of up to 63mph. It opens May 25.
