Silent defendant

    Accused of drug trafficking, Juan Jose Gonzalez Luna could not hear, speak or understand most of what went on at his preliminary hearing yesterday. But the case against him will go to trial.

    Gonzalez is deaf, mute, illiterate and does not understand sign language. The 42-year-old was in a Montgomery County courtroom yesterday where a judge determined he knows enough of what’s going on to be tried on drug charges.
