Shore towns ranked among best in nation for doing business

    Ocean City, NJ, tops the list as the best place in the nation for independent retailers to do business. Atantic City came in at No. 22.

    Houston- and Chicago-based Indie City Index compiled the list after analyzine 300 American cities to determine how much of the sales in the locations were at major chain stores. The Press of Atlantic City reports the town has nearly 225 independently owned stores. Ocean City scored 147.7 on the Index’s scale, which places the national average at 100.

    The honor will be incorporated in the city’s new tourism marketing campaign.
