Sheriff’s orders

Acting Philadelphia Sheriff Barbara Deeley announced changes to the office this week after many have called for her reassignment and the closing of the office altogether.

Deeley has places three senior staffers on leave with pay pending their Feb. 7 separation, and re-assigned Director of Real Estate Daryl Stewart outside the Real Estate Division.

She’s cut ties with Reach Communications, RCS Searchers and all other title companies working with the Sheriff’s Office, and appointed former City Controller Joe Vignola to the new position of Chief Deputy for Finance and Accountability. Vignola will review all the aforementioned agreements.

A 50-day moratorium is in place for all sheriff sales.

Deeley said in a release: “These steps have been taken in full cognizance of the important work done by City Controller Alan Butkovitz in auditing the Sheriff’s Office. The findings in his report are, in large part, the impetus for the actions I have taken today.”
