Scattered thunderstorms are possible late this afternoon and early evening, forecasters advise.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the entire Jersey Shore.

It’s in effect until 8 p.m. today and also covers the remainder of New Jersey.

At 3 p.m. thunderstorms are tracking southeasterly along a broken line west of the Delaware River. Some have reached severe levels.

Some of the storms could produce damaging wind gusts, hail, heavy rain, and dangerous cloud to ground lightning, according a National Weather Service bulletin.

But not every location will experience a thunderstorm, and it’s not known if the line will survive its push to the coast.

The activity is expected to head offshore by sunset.
