UPDATE: Charges filed against suspect in Philly school shooting

Charges have been filed against a suspect in a shooting that left two Philadelphia high school students injured on Friday.

 

According to the Philadelphia police, 17 year-old Raisheem Rochwell was charged as an adult and arraigned on a $500,000 bail. Rochwell is being charged with aaggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, possessing a weapon on school property, and other related charges.

Rochwell turned himself in to officials on Saturday afternoon, accompanied by his attorney.

It was just before 3:30 p.m. Friday when students inside of the gymnasium of the Delaware Valley Charter High School were wounded by gunfire, according to an official police statement.

An 18 year-old female student was shot in the rear of her left arm. It was the same bullet, which exited her bicep, that then struck a 17 year-old male student in the shoulder, authorities report. Both students were transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center for treatment. The female was later released and the male was placed in stable condition.

Police confirm the shooting was captured on the school’s video surveillance system and has led investigators to two suspects.

The first suspect turned himself in to Northwest Detectives at the 35th District, where he was questioned and released as no official charges have been filed, officials report.
