School bus fire extinguished

A “small fire” broke out aboard a school bus this afternoon in the city’s Mt. Airy section, according to officials with the Philadelphia Fire Department.

Firefighters and medics responded to the 7100 block of Germantown Ave. at around 3:30 p.m.

Executive Chief Richard Davidson said the fire, which started in the vehicle’s engine compartment, did not bring any harm to any of the eight Philadelphia School District students or the bus’ driver.

Two students were transported to the hospital for evaluation, he said. They were in stable condition at the time.

The students, all disabled, were from John F. McClosky and F.S. Edmunds Elementaries, both located in neighboring Cedarbrook.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
