Maloumian Oriental Rugs to open location in Chestnut Hill

This fall, the “Hill” will get a decorative face lift with the opening of a model store for Roy Maloumian Oriental Rugs located at 7946 Germantown Ave.

Roy Maloumian Oriental Rugs has been in business for 85 years. Its 1000 square feet headquarters has been stationed in Mt. Airy since 1986 and sells thousands of authentic handmade rugs.

Third-generation owner Maloumian says the new store will not look anything like the Mt. Airy location because it is smaller and will primarily be a model store for kilim products, which he described as a flat woven rug. He also plans to sell purses, travel bags and small furniture that is also made from the kilim rug fabric.”Each and every one of them are one of a kind,” he said. The store is expected to open in Chestnut Hill in September.

“We are excited that a long-term successful business like Maloumian would open their business in Chestnut Hill,” said Kate O’Neill, deputy director of the Chestnut Hill Business Association.

She says the Maloumian’s new location on Germantown Avenue at W. Willow Grove Ave. is in a prominent location with great aesthetics such as large windows

Like the headquarters, the Chestnut Hill location will provide drop off service for rug cleaning, repair, and restoration. Maloumian hopes it will serve as a model for other stores he would like to open in the city.
