Report card

Households in the Philadelphia region spend more than the average household in the nation on things like entertainment, food, housing and apparel. In fact, the only thing we spend less on is health care. The statistics come from the most recent monthly economic report issued by Philadelphia City Controller Alan Butkovitz.

On average, Philadelphians spend 74 percent of the annual income, the report says. The report also breaks down the spending, with housing costs taking the lead at 37 percent.

The full report is on the City Controller’s website, where you can see just how Philadelphia stacks up to itself and the rest of nation.
