Ready, aim …

The Battleship New Jersey is offering an opportunity to ring in 2011 with a boom.

The ship is accepting bids to fire the gun as part of the midnight fireworks show on New Year’s Eve over the Delaware River on the Camden and Philadelphia waterfronts.

According to the Gloucester County Times, the bid goes toward preservation of the battleship. Bids can be e-mailed to firethegun@battleshipnewjersey.org.  You can keep tabs on the leading bid at www.battleshipnewjersey.org. The highest bid at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 30, wins.
