Ramsey says SugarHouse hasn’t significantly raised area crime rates

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said yesterday the opening of SugarHouse Casino in Fishtown hasn’t brought crime to the neighborhood the way many had feared.

During a City Council hearing yesterday, Ramsey addressed concerns of council members that the casino was raising crime rates. The commissioner said aside from some car break-ins and a few well-publicized robberies of casino winners, the crime is not as bad as the department would have thought.

The police department has a separate patrol for the casino.
