That’s what a $30 million project will do around Philadelphia and along the north east corridor. The trenching project will open the northeastern seaboard to freight cars that are common in the midwest.
Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell says the state’s 10 million dollar investment in the project will promote economic competitiveness.
Rendell: Goods’ movement, and the price and the cost of moving goods and the speed of moving goods translates into economic growth and economic vitality. And this project will do just that for people who ship into the ports of Philadelphia. For Philadelphia businesses, warehouses and distribution centers, they will be able to ship more cheaply, more effectively and more quickly.
The work augments a project funded by Governor Bob Casey that freed up East-West access for the taller cars.
