Plans being finalized, donations sought for Lawncrest Fourth of July celebration

With less than two months to go before Lawncrest’s annual Fourth of July celebration, organizers are working to finalize the events and secure donations.

The 97th annual festivities are being organized once again by the Lawncrest Community Association’s Fourth of July Committee, which has chosen “A Community United” as this year’s theme.

As usual, the day will kick off at 9 a.m. with the parade. Starting at Martins Mill Road and Rising Sun Avenue and ending several blocks away in front of the Lawncrest Rec Center – the center of the day’s events.

A flag-raising ceremony will kick off the flea market, car show, children’s ride, food court, live bands, magic show and drill teams, all to be followed at dusk by the fireworks show.

The celebration is funded through donations, sponsors and fundraisers, all of which the Fourth of July Committee said it needs more of. Members Steve Cartledge and Crystal El spoke at Tuesday’s Lawncrest Community Association meeting to announce a bowling fundraiser and T-shirt sale to drum up donations. All inquiries can be directed to Cartledge at 215-651-8470.

July 4th festivities will take place Saturday, July 7 in the event of rain.
