Philly’s most beautiful block contest kicks off

This week marked the start of the city’s Clean Block Contest, as Streets Commissioner Clarena Tolson kicked off the contest from City Hall.

The city says the contest, organized by the Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee, is intended to motivate and excite block residents and recognize them for their achievements.

Contest judging this year began this week, with three dates remaining this month; October 4, 5 and 6.

The city says the four top blocks will be announced in November at the Annual Clean Block Awards Banquet. The winning blocks will be awarded money, from $300 for the fourth place block to $1,000 for the first place block. The money will be used for clean block projects.
