Philly Pride Weekend kicks off for International Gay and Lesbian Pride Month

Philly Pride Weekend kicks off Friday in honor of International Gay and Lesbian Pride Month, and runs through Sunday with a series of events and celebrations around the city.

The main event is Sunday’s Pride Parade and Festival, which is expected to draw more than 25,000 people along its route from the Gayborhood to Penn’s Landing. Hundreds of food vendors and national and local LGBT organizations will be at the waterfront event, which includes six hours of live entertainment.

Uwishunu has a fun fact for us: “The first official Pride Parade was organized in an impromptu fashion at the end of the 1980s to coincide with a rally planned by the Lesbian and Gay Task Force at Love Park.”

The full events listing can be found on Philly Pride’s website.
