Phillies say Ryan Howard has torn Achilles tendon

As if it weren’t painful enough to watch the Phillies lose to the Cardinals in this week’s gave 5 of the NLDS, we’re now learning this weekend the team’s first baseman, Ryan Howard, suffered a torn Achilles tendon.

According to the Associated Press, the injury might force the first baseman miss the start of spring training.

Howard had to be helped off the field by team trainers after making the final out of Friday’s season-ending loss.

An MRI on Saturday night revealed the rupture of Howard’s Achilles tendon.

The Associated Press reports injuries of that type can require at least six months of recuperation.
