N.J. Senate Pres. Stephen Sweeney said he’ll announce soon pension changes that would require Gov. Chris Christie to pay into the fund. There’s a $53.9 billion shortfall for government workers, teachers and police and fire pensions, which resulted in some pensions being skipped or reduced over the years.
The Associated Press reports Sweeney insists Christie will have to contribute to the pensions if an overhaul of the system is to be successful. Christie’s past proposals have included raising the retirement age and rolling back a benefits increase.
