Pa. man hooks record-breaking striped bass in Del.

Delaware officials say a Pennsylvania man has hooked at 52-pound striped bass as part of the Delaware Sport Fishing Tournament, breaking a record set in 1978.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental control says Ben Smith of Bryn Mar, Pa., reeled in the fish Dec. 8 while fishing in the surf at Delaware Seashore State Park.

Smith’s catch was measured and weighed with a certified scale.

Nathan Rust, Delaware Sport Fishing Tournament director, says the former state record of 51 pounds, 8 ounces was set in 1978.
