Oyster Creek to test emergency sirens Tuesday morning
The Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station will conduct its semi-annual, full volume test of new emergency warning sirens Tuesday morning.
Exelon Generation, the owner of the Forked River plant, replaced all 42 emergency warning sirens within a 10-mile radius around of the station with new, state-of-the-art units featuring battery back-up, according to a company release. The original sirens will be removed in 2014.
The sirens will blare for three minutes today beginning at 10 a.m.
The purpose of the sirens is to notify residents to tune to an Emergency Alert System (EAS) radio or television station in case of an emergency, the release states.
