Over the limit

Recent data released by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found one in 10 drivers admit to having driven when they thought they were close or over the legal alcohol limit. Fiver percent of all drivers admit to doing so more than once in the last year.

The data comes just in time for New Year’s Day, when as statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show (2000 to 2009), 80 people a year have died in New Year’s Day car crashes. PennDOT numbers show 94 crashes were reported in Pennsylvania last New Year’s Day, but no deaths were recorded.

Naturally, AAA has tips for avoiding such tragedies, such as selecting a designated driver, using public transit, staying the night at your host’s house and limiting your alcohol intake.
