Orange alert

The Sunday commute was fraught with drama for some when a woman flagged down a police officer traveling north on the Broad Street Line and showed him a toiletry kit containing little tubes of brown powder she said she found in her husband’s closet.

According to CBS Philly, the officer examined the tubes and saw that one had a brown powder on one side and a liquid on the other side. A Hazmat response team was summoned after the officer suspected that the items might combine to form an explosive. A bomb squad ruled out that possibility, but said further testing would be done to determine what the substances are. The woman’s husband was taken in for questioning.

During the incident, Broad Street was closed from Olney Avenue to Grange Avenue. Underground subway traffic was also stopped, but got moving again after the Hazmat teams gave the all-clear.
