Onion launches local entertainment site today

Hold onto your hats, Feed readers, this is a media-laden post. We’re dropping publication names and the name of publications dropping other publications’ names. Whew, got that?
It starts and ends with the Onion. The satirical paper launched today its local edition, the A.V. Club, in partnership with Philadelphia Media Network.

Philly Post has already called out the city’s alt weeklies, CityPaper and Philadelphia Weekly, telling them to step it up if they expect to compete with the A.V. Club. Of course, the A.V. Club is already tripping over our often confusing, sometimes made up neighborhood boundaries. And CityPaper has also signed on as a PMN partner, so perhaps three’s company?

So where does this leave the now three alt weeklies? Likely in exactly the same place they’re in now.
