Nutter announces cold weather safety plans

As temperatures dip into the single digits, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has announced the city’s cold weather plans.

The city declares a Code Blue when temps fall below 20 degrees and provides emergency shelter for the homeless.

More than 300 emergency beds are added to the city’s 2,500+ during a Code Blue. You can call 311 or Project HOME (215-232-1984) to find shelter for a person who needs it.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Supplemental Nutrition Program, BenePhilly, Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, Philadelphia Fire Department and Philadelphia Water Department all have hotlines to call for tips and assistance.
