NRC accepts Limerick’s nuclear license renewal application

Exelon Nuclear’s Limerick Generating Station has cleared the first hurdle in renewing its operating license: getting the application accepted.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission accepted the application Friday without requesting further material, as it has the right to do at anytime during the review process.

Exelon submitted the applications for Unit 1 and Unit 2 on June 22, as the Mercury reports. Their current licenses expire in 2024 and 2029, respectively.

In New Jersey, license renewals have already been granted for Hope Creek and Salem 1 and 2. Renewals are good for 20 years.
