Jones holds up action on East Falls victims unit

A bill to move the police Special Victims Unit to a new East Falls facility is on the agenda for today’s City Council meeting. But the bill’s sponsor is backing down.

Curtis Jones now says he plans to keep it from coming to a vote, reports Amy Z. Quinn of PlanPhilly.

Quinn reports that Jones had introduced the bill on May 17, but acknowledged he hadn’t sent representatives into the neighborhood to talk about it.

Turned out, they weren’t happy. Jones acknowledged, “They’ve had to live through gambling, they’ve had to live through the youth studies center–for them to be a bit concerned about 100 new police officers in that unit is valid.”
