N.J. resumes Monday hours at motor vehicle agencies

Monday service is being restored at all 39 of the Motor Vehicle Commission agencies in New Jersey.

The agencies that process drivers’ licenses and vehicle registrations in New Jersey were closed on Mondays since last summer because of budget concerns.

Ray Martinez, chief administrator of the Motor Vehicle Commission, says negotiations with the workers’ union resulted in an agreement to allow Monday service to resume without increasing costs.

“We have some flexibility with the hours that our employees can work,” he said. “We’re working some shifts on some days, specifically on longer days and on our Saturdays, and I think that’s the way that we can utilize our employees to their best result for our customers.”

The MVC agencies will continue extended hours: until 7:30 in the evening on Tuesdays and until 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
