N.J. conducts hurricane drill

Motorists might see more police on New Jersey’s highways, but there’s no cause for alarm.

The Transportation Department, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, the South Jersey Turnpike Authority and the State Police are conducting a hurricane evacuation drill on Thursday.

No roads will be closed. But the main purpose of the exercise is to practice how to reverse the flow of traffic along a section of highway in order evacuate people from the coast.

Motorists will see crews deploying cones, barrels and message boards for the drill.
