Mt. Airy USA partners with WXPN for Night Market’s return
Foodies and music fans, listen up. Circle August 16 on your calendar, because that is the date Night Market will return to Mt. Airy. Only this year the music will play a bigger role. Mt. Airy USA will be hosting the event and partnering with WXPN for the festival’s music offerings.
MAUSA’s Executive Director Anuj Gupta stated that music acts have not yet been confirmed, but the organization is excited to be working together WXPN.
“Community events like this, when they’re managed well, can be a real asset for residents and businesses alike,” Gupta said.
The festival will once again be held along Germantown Avenue. MAUSA is expecting a larger crowd this year and hopes that more food vendors, particularly those from Mt. Airy, will take part. Last year’s festival attracted approximately 7500. Gupta stated that he anticipates an attendance of 10,000 this August.
Night Market came to Mt. Airy for the first time last year and was widely considered a great success, despite some parking difficulties. Food Trust brought the event to the neighborhood under a grant from the William Penn Foundation. This year, MAUSA is responsible for all funding for Night Market. Gupta estimated the costs for the event to be around $20,000. Some of the money will be raised through vendors fees and sponsorships.
Gupta stated that MAUSA wants to replicate the good vibe from last year’s Night Market and also to showcase Mt. Airy to the rest of Philadelphia. “We have a lot to offer,” he said.
