Newtown cool

Thanks to a burgeoning arts scene, bustling restaurants and proximity to nature, Newtown has been nominated as one of America’s “Coolest Small Towns.”

Budget Travel magazine analyzed several criteria to get its short list, which also inlcudes Phoenicia, N.Y.; Wiscasset, Maine; Alpine, Texas; Eureka Springs, Ark.; La Pointe, Wis.; Cooke City, Mont.; Bolinas, Calif.; Haleiwa, Hawaii. Some of the competing towns have less than 200 residents – like Cedar Key, Fla.

Now, people can vote for their favorite and the top 10 will appear in the magazine’s September issue. The Bucks County Courier Times reports Newtown is currently in 13th place with 908 votes, but voting runs through Feb. 11, and you can vote as many times as you like.

To qualify, the towns must have fewer than 10,000 people, new residents and some kind of cool factor like arts.
