New Jersey police officer killed in crash

    The Associated Press reports a veteran New Jersey police officer was killed when his cruiser crashed on a state highway.

    According to the AP, 37-year-old Joseph Wargo’s cruiser crashed around 1 a.m. this morning on the eastbound side of Route 80 in Roxbury.

    On the Mount Arlington Police Department website, Wargo is listed as an officer of the department’s patrol squad.

    Wargo served on the Mount Arlington force for more than 10 years and was on duty when the accident happened.

    The AP says the cause of the crash was not immediately known.

    Wargo was the president of the local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 78.
