Neighborhood effort

    Strawberry Mansion resident Willie McRae had a very common experience in his service requests to city agencies: unanswered calls and empty promises. But when the 77-year-old got the Daily News involved, he inspired others on his block to work together for imrovements.

    The Daily News has a profile on McRae, who worked to keep his block — his home for 50 years — from literally crumbling. With the help from neighbors, L&I and the police, the North Philly block is seeing better days.
