Name game

Taking a cue from others, the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health/Mental Retardation will change its name to something more politically correct.

Effective March 1, the office will be called the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services. The department’s website says the term ‘intellectual disability’ is the current terminology for what in the past was called mental retardation.

Delaware County did the same just a few weeks ago when the Office of Mental Retardation became the the Office of Intellectual Disability.
