Bust at Philly Mummers club nets at least 12

A raid on the clubhouse of a popular Philadelphia New Year’s parade brigade has resulted in prostitution arrests.

Police say 10 women were arrested Tuesday night on prostitution charges inside the South Philadelphia clubhouse of the Downtowners Fancy Brigade. At least two men were also charged.

Deputy Police Commissioner William Blackburn says a tip prompted the raid. Police were told there were prostitutes in the club on the second Tuesday of every month. Blackburn says undercover officers who went inside were propositioned by 10 women over the course of the evening. A search warrant was issued and the club shut down by 9 p.m.

Blackburn says police were still trying to determine if those arrested are members of the club. The clubhouse can be rented by outside parties.
