Christmas tree lights up Germantown Avenue

More than 100 Mt. Airy neighbors braved the wintry weather on Friday night to attend the Lutheran Theological Seminary’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

Crowds gathered in the William Allen Plaza on Germantown Avenue while sipping hot apple cider and snacking on cookies as the Salvation Army band played holiday music on their brass instruments.

Neighbors exchanged holiday greetings and made donations to the Salvation Army as they waited for the moment they all came for.

Former President of the East Mt Airy Neighbors Association, Dan Muroff, greeted the audience then passed the microphone to Dr Kiran Sebastian, the chaplain of the Lutheran Theological Seminary, who led a short prayer.

District councilperson-elect Cindy Bass took a break from introducing her family to the Mt. Airy community, to lead the countdown to the tree lighting.

Then as every person in the courtyard shouted “3-2-1… let there be light!” the tree sparkled to life.
