Another round of construction will shut down the Vine Street Expressway beginning this week.

Interstate 676 will be shut from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday for the continuing bridge replacement of the spans over the highway, said Gene Blaum of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

“Then we’ll return on Tuesday night after Labor Day and do three nights the following week,” he said.

Drivers are adjusting to the problems and detours that come with the repeated closings of the highway, Blaum said.

“This is going to be a pattern that is going to followed through the course of this project, which is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2019,” he said.

Posted detours will send drivers to alternate routes including Spring Garden Street and JFK Boulevard.
