Trial for Mt. Airy meth trio postponed till Dec

Three individuals arrested in connection to a drug bust last summer in the city’s Mount Airy section will now stand trial Dec. 3. The proceedings were scheduled to start today.

On June 23, 2011, Warren Layre, James McIntyre and Cecelia Silverwood were arrested at 529-35 W. Sedgwick St. for allegedly participating in a crystal methamphetamine operation. Each was charged with possession with the intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance, a felony.

Police later seized more than $250,000 worth of crystal meth from a large two-bay garage at the address, which was allegedly used as a distribution site. Cash, steroids and a large quantity of fireworks were also removed from the property.

Two others were arrested during the raid and similarly charged, but were cleared from the case following last September’s preliminary hearing.
