Scott F. Mason is the winner of The Grand’s 2010 “IN” the Spotlight competition, where his hilarious, spot-on impersonation of Dame Edna won the acclaim of judges and audiences alike. Named “Dame Edna’s Honorary Understudy” by the real Dame herself, Barry Humphries, Mason has been perfecting his act for the past seven years, earning him consecutive “Funniest Male” awards at the 2008 and 2009 Sunburst Convention for Celebrity Impersonators.  The baby grand, May 14th, 8 p.m.

Finger Style Swing and Country-Jazz Pickin’

Local guitar phenoms Michael Brook and Steve Hobson bring their pickin’ skills back to the NAA, admission is $8 in advance and $10 at the door.  A chili dinner, featuring both regular and vegetarian options with all the trimmings, will be served at 7 p.m. for $8.  The musicians will showcase their playing, singing, and songwriting skills with a night of guitar, lap steel, and porch board bass.  Newark Arts Alliance, May 20th, 8 p.m.

 

 

DooWop Delight

Head out to the Smyrna Opera House for a great night of “doo-wop” music featuring local and regional singers! Enjoy songs from the 1950’s and 1960’s where “drive-ins”, “muscle cars”, “sock hops” and “soda shops” were all the rage. Guys, you might want to slick your hair in a ducktail! Girls, you might want to break out the poodle skirts! This event is expected to be well-attended so please reserve your tickets now.  Smyrna Opera House, May 14th, 7:30 p.m.

 

 

Symphony at Sea

The 60-member symphony will play aboard the MV Twin Capes as it sails from Lewes, Del, to Cape May, NJ and back to the sounds of “Big Band to Broadway.” Passengers will be treated to wine tasting, an open bar, lavish hors d’oeuvres from local restaurants, cocktails, and a silent auction of unique items. Reservations are $100 and must be made in advance. Cape May-Lewes Ferry, May 15th, 2 p.m.
