Manhole explosion causes fire, power outages in Pottstown

    Update: The Mercury has photos and video of the fire, which Pottstown Fire Chief Richard Lengel says is electrical in nature.

    A manhole cover exploded this morning in Pottstown, causing a fire and leaving many without power. The 200-block of Penn Street in Penn Alley has been evacuated.

    The Pottstown Mercury, which is without power in its office, reports the explosion happened around 8 a.m. and caused fires in nearby buildings. High and King Streets are closed.
