Man shot in the head in downtown Wilmington

As deadly as the injury sounds, the 24-year-old victim is in stable condition at Christiana Hospital; and Wilmington Police have made an arrest.

24-year-old Brandon Boddy, of Wilmington, was booked on Robbery, Assault, Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and Possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited charges.

Interviewed at the hospital, the victim told detectives he was sitting in a vehicle with a friend on 9th Street near Jefferson Street, when he was approached by Boddy waving a handgun, forcing him out of the car and demanding money. A struggle ensued, during which the victim was being pistol whipped. That’s when the Wilmington man says the gun went off.

The shooting happened just after midnight. Soon after, officers took Boddy into custody about two blocks away. According to police, he was seen running from the area with blood on his face and hands.

The shooting happened just six blocks from the Market Street area that the city has been trying to draw more visitors to for years. Earlier this month, State Police started patrolling areas of the city in cooperation with Wilmington Police. The joint effort, dubbed Operation Pressure Point, is expected to last for a year, but could be extended. As part of the agreement, the Attorney General’s office has also established a unit specifically dedicated to prosecuting Wilmington crimes.
