The U.S. Attorney’s office has announced charges by criminal complaint against the man accused of Thursday’s hoax at Philadelphia International Airport.

Kenneth W. Smith, 26, is charged with knowingly engaging in conduct with intent to convey false and misleading information.

Smith was arrested by federal agents after they determined he tipped off authorities about an explosive device being carried onto a Dallas-bound plane.

Passenger Christopher Shell was arrested for attempting to bring explosives onto the plane, but later released when agents realized the tip was a hoax.

Smith faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
